How does it feel to sing?

That can depend on your sense of belonging, your trauma history, your knowledge of technique, your posture, and so much more. It's time to dispel the feeling that your voice isn't 'good enough.'

We invite you to liberate your voice - in every sense of the word! Connect in this brave space with Stellar Villagers from around the world, expanding your musical horizons in an interactive Zoom meeting.

A great feature of working on your voice online is that you are always at choice as to whether you turn your mic on to get feedback or ask questions. Many of us have a trauma response of going quiet, still, or losing vocal flexibility. Let's practice dismantling shame and trauma around our voices together, with the expert guidance of Sheniqua Trotman!

Feedback on Sheniqua's songleading (for a different event)

“So wonderful, I got goosebumps! It was the first time for me to join a community singing and definitely not my last one. So beautiful vibes, voices, sounds and people! Even though my Internet connection allowed me to follow just a while it was so touching and the dogs also enjoyed it completely relaxed.

I will watch the recording as soon as its available. Looking forward to the next one.”

Common Questions (FAQ)

  • Will this live event be recorded?

Yes! These live sessions also will be recorded. You can get past recordings in the course player.

If you're logged in, you'll see the link to the course player in the Start Learning link at the top of this page.

There may be a chance for some connection with each other in break-out groups in guided discussion or song. Breakout rooms are not recorded, for privacy.

  • Will there be sing-a-longs?

Yes! As in our community song circles, Sheniqua (and the students) may sing "teaching songs", which are songs full of wisdom that are meant to be easily shared and learned.

We generally sing a capella (without instruments or with light instrumentation in service of the song).

The songleader introduces each song and then teaches it at the pace we need, with built in pauses for you to be able to repeat the song. In Zoom, the attendee mics are mostly off unless you're asking a question or leading a song, so you'll be able to sing along with the songleader wherever you are.

  • How long is the session?

    1.5 hours.

  • Can my friends join me or do we all need to sign up?

As a member, you're welcome to invite your friends to sing along with you in person (so. you're Zooming in from the same camera). After all, singing and learning are usually more fun with friends!

If you are in different places, you'll each need your own account.

  • What if I don't think of myself as a singer or I'm tone deaf?

The more afraid you are of this workshop, the more you need it. If you can speak, you can sing. And being physically tone deaf is actually extremely rare. All levels of singers are welcome.

Even if you don't sing in community already or believe you don't sing "well" we especially invite your curiosity! All voices are good voices.

  • What do you have for accessibility?

Virtual song circles are a fairly accessible option already, great for parents of young children, folks with limited mobility.

Live sessions have subtitles for folks who are hard of hearing and you can also turn on automatic translation. Due to the nature of the content, we don't have any options for folks who can't hear the singing at all - but please let us know if there is a need for that and you have ideas!

The content player for the recorded session includes English captions. Depending on the session, we may also upload a document with the words to the songs in the course player to go along with the recording.

  • How do I join live or watch recordings?

If you are a Stellar Village member, be sure you're logged in and then click on "Start" or "Resume" at the top of the page to get to the course player where the info and recordings live. The Zoom link lives on the top of the Calendar Page

Or here's a direct link to the content player.
